Actress Jo Yoon-hee recently shared her deep affection for her daughter, Loa, while also taking time for self-reflection.
In the latest episode of TV Chosun's "I’m Now Alone," Jo Yoon-hee is seen visiting a psychological testing center with Loa, drawing significant attention. Married to actor Lee Dong-gun in 2017 and having given birth to Loa, Jo Yoon-hee went through a divorce in 2020. During the psychological assessment, an expert advised her to separate her identity from her daughter's, emphasizing the importance of understanding herself better.
Jo Yoon-hee expressed her desire to be a good mother, stating, "Loa is truly precious," and declared that she would support her daughter's wish to live with her father, even if it hurts her. This honesty surprised many around her, prompting fellow guest Park Mi-sun to suggest that while it's commendable to consider the child's needs, Jo should also be mindful of her own emotional well-being. Actor Jeon No-min added that Jo seems eager to shower Loa with the affection she felt she lacked during her childhood.
Reflecting on her parenting style, Jo remarked, "It feels like I am pouring the motherly love I wished for onto Loa." She acknowledged that her desires for love and attention from her own mother influence her interactions with her daughter, prompting deeper reflections on her past. Consequently, she finds herself being more generous and spending more time with Loa, stemming from her own childhood experiences.
However, Jo Yoon-hee admitted that she doesn't extend the same kindness to herself, feeling inadequate since starting her broadcasting career. She also mentioned struggling with feelings of depression, particularly when she feels unable to meet her own expectations. Jo noted that without Loa, her thoughts about herself could have taken a more pessimistic turn, something she experienced frequently before becoming a mother.
During the counseling session, insights revealed that Jo Yoon-hee's self-image seems clouded, with signs of dependency, especially on Loa. The counselor encouraged her to develop a healthier relationship with her daughter by recognizing the need to distinguish between their identities. This journey of self-discovery is essential for Jo Yoon-hee as she navigates her role as a mother and her own personal growth.
