The global girl group KATSEYE, created by HYBE, is set to kick off its activities in Korea with an exciting Asian promotional tour.
On November 11, a media day was held at HYBE's Yongsan Building in Seoul to celebrate KATSEYE's upcoming tour. The group, consisting of members Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia, and Yoonchae, was formed through the intense survival audition project 'The Debut: Dream Academy,' which attracted over 120,000 applicants. With a diverse international lineup, including members from the U.S., India, Switzerland, the Philippines, and Korea, KATSEYE made its debut in the U.S. in June.
As they prepare for their first Asian promotion, Lara expressed her excitement, stating, "I've waited a long time for this moment. We will be doing performances and interviews, and I'm very hopeful." Similarly, Yoonchae shared her joy about being in Korea to fulfill her dreams of participating in music broadcasts and promotions.
While KATSEYE is rooted in K-pop methodology, the group sets itself apart by primarily operating in the U.S. Manon emphasized their unique representation of multiple countries, saying, "We have our diversity that allows us to offer something special due to our different backgrounds." This distinction aims to widen their appeal beyond the typical K-pop idol framework.
Sophia noted the merits of their training, highlighting the blend of K-pop techniques with their cultural backgrounds. She explained, “K-pop idol training was challenging, but it was also rewarding,” reflecting on how the six members supported each other throughout. The group recently debuted with their EP 'SIS (Soft Is Strong),' focusing on the theme of strength in softness.
Lara described 'SIS' as an album that showcases KATSEYE's charming duality, offering various genres while the title track 'Touch' highlights their softer side, encapsulating complex emotions. In pursuit of becoming the world's top global girl group, Manon mentioned their ultimate goal is to connect with fans through worldwide tours, inspired by groups like the Pussycat Dolls and other HYBE artists.
Looking ahead, KATSEYE will embark on a two-week Asian promotional tour across Korea, the Philippines, and Japan, starting with an appearance on Mnet's 'M Countdown' on the 12th. Anticipation is building for their performances and the aim to solidify their presence in the K-pop scene.
