2024 MBC Acting Awards
(MHN Sports, Jeong Seung-min) Actor Han Seok-kyu, who won the grand prize at the '2024 MBC Acting Awards', expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victims and bereaved families of the passenger plane disaster, overwhelming everyone with emotion.
On the afternoon of the 5th, the recorded segment of the '2024 MBC Acting Awards' aired, hosted by Kim Sung-joo and Chae Soo-bin.
The '2024 MBC Acting Awards' were originally scheduled to be broadcast live on December 30 last year. However, due to the repercussions of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster at Muan International Airport, the live broadcast was canceled and switched to a recorded format.
Nominees for the '2024 MBC Acting Awards' included Lee Ha-nui for 'The Flower That Blooms at Night', Kim Nam-joo for 'Wonderful World', Lee Je-hoon for 'Investigation Team Leader 1958', Kim Hee-sun for 'Our Home', Byun Yo-han for 'Death to Snow White - Black Out', Han Seok-kyu for 'A Betrayer So Familiar', and Yoo Yeon-seok for 'The Phone You Are Receiving'.
On this day, the grand prize was awarded to Han Seok-kyu, marking his return to MBC productions after 30 years.
Upon receiving the award, Han Seok-kyu stated, "I feel such deep regret for even being in a position to accept this award. Everything that actors do is a gesture for the viewers and the audience, yet such a tragic event has occurred, and my heart aches. I keep wondering how I can sincerely and honestly convey my feelings. I truly want to express my condolences to the bereaved families who have experienced this significant tragedy."
Furthermore, he continued, "I wanted to portray a character in 'A Betrayer So Familiar' because I wanted to convey the preciousness of family. Recently, I've been reflecting on the fact that the major theme of my life’s work has been family. I wanted to tell a story around that theme..." Struggling to find the words, he added, "I offer my deepest condolences to those who have lost their families. Please overcome this immense sadness, and I apologize."
