Actor Lee Byung-hun (54) recently shared insights about his relationship with Lee Jung-jae (52) in the much-anticipated second season of ‘Squid Game’.
American entertainment outlet Screen Rant published an interview video with director Hwang Dong-hyuk and Lee Byung-hun on the 3rd of this month (local time). In the ‘Squid Game’ series, Lee Byung-hun plays the role of Frontman Hwang In-ho, and in this season, he also takes on the character of 001 participant Oh Young-il while concealing his Frontman identity. Notably, he shares a thrilling chemistry with Lee Jung-jae, who portrays Sung Ki-hoon, creating an atmosphere of taut suspense.
In this context, the outlet asked Lee Byung-hun, “In-ho focuses solely on Ki-hoon in season 2. What do you think captivates him about this character?”
Lee Byung-hun responded, “Ki-hoon re-enters the ‘Squid Game’ to dismantle the entire game system. In contrast, the Frontman attempts to stop Ki-hoon and prove that he is wrong in his beliefs, trying to correct him. In-ho believes that Ki-hoon is incorrect and that he himself is right, leading to their confrontation.”
He further elaborated, “In season 2, while In-ho maintains his role as Frontman, he also shares his own story as Hwang In-ho, exploring how he became such a pessimistic character. Additionally, by directly participating in the games, he performs as the new character Young-il, whom he has created, in front of people.”
Lee Byung-hun expressed, “Portraying such a multi-dimensional character was the most crucial task in season 2 and felt like a very intriguing challenge as an actor. There were difficulties while shooting, but I had a great time,” hinting at the secrets behind his remarkable performance.
