MBC Secures Asset Freeze Against 'Jeongnyeon-i' Production Companies, Delaying Anticipated Drama's Premiere

MBC has received a favorable ruling regarding a provisional seizure application against the production company of tvN's upcoming drama "Jeongnyeoni."

On September 12, MBC stated that they applied for the seizure based on claims of unfair competition and damages due to alleged misappropriation of work-related outcomes. The court ruled on September 10 that MBC's claims were justified and approved the seizure application. MBC filed this request against Studio N, management MMM, and ANPIO Entertainment, all involved in the production of "Jeongnyeoni."

MBC argues that despite their active participation in preliminary production efforts, such as research and casting, they incurred significant losses when the project did not move forward. Following the success of the historical drama "The Red Sleeve," key personnel, including director Jeong Ji-in, exited the company during the pre-production phase. As a result, this legal development has raised concerns about the future of the drama.

In response to the allegations, the production company and tvN indicated on September 12 that they would verify the claims. Interestingly, even on the same day that the news broke about the provisional seizure, the production team sent out promotional materials for the drama. This situation adds to the tension surrounding the anticipated release of "Jeongnyeoni."

"Jeongnyeoni" tells the story of a naturally gifted singer striving to become the top national theatrical actor in post-war Korea during the 1950s. Starring Kim Tae-ri as the lead character Jeongnyeoni, the drama was originally scheduled to premiere on October 12 at 9:20 PM. However, the recent legal issues have put its debut in jeopardy.
