Michelin Star Chef An Sung-jae Reveals Heated Debates with Baek Jong-won During Netflix's Culinary Show 'Black and White Chefs'

Disagreements Spark Excitement at 'Black and White Chef' Premiere

In an intriguing twist, renowned chefs Baek Jong-won and Ahn Sung-jae have revealed that their perspectives clashed during the judging process of Netflix's new show "Black and White Chef."

The premiere event took place on November 11 at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square in Seoul, featuring notable figures like PDs Kim Hak-min and Kim Eun-ji alongside the two star judges. "Black and White Chef" pits exceptional chefs, known as "black spoons," against Korea's elite culinary talents, referred to as "white spoons," in a fierce cooking competition involving 100 participants. As they faced off, both judges elaborated on their criteria for assessing the dishes.

Baek stated, "We focused solely on taste, which is a universal language." He acknowledged that while the standards may not be exceptionally high, his extensive tasting experiences lend credibility to their evaluations. Meanwhile, Ahn emphasized the significance of the chefs' intentions and techniques, explaining that flavor serves as an essential foundation but not the sole criterion.

The spirited debates between the judges often lasted over 20 minutes, as revealed by PD Kim Eun-ji, who noted the challenges due to the high caliber of contestants. Baek humorously remarked on the intensity of their discussions while clarifying that camera presence kept them civil. Ahn, recognized as Korea's only Michelin 3-star chef, shared insights into their differing viewpoints shaped by their unique culinary journeys.

"Black and White Chef" is set to air its first four episodes on November 17, with subsequent episodes releasing every Tuesday until December 8. Don't miss the opportunity to catch this culinary showdown that showcases the rich tapestry of Korean cuisine.
