NewJeans' 'How Sweet' Hits High on Billboard Charts
According to a Korean media report, NewJeans' "How Sweet" has secured a top position on the major Billboard charts in the United States.
On June 3 (local time), Billboard announced through its website and social media channels some of the latest chart rankings (dated June 8) based on data collected from May 24 to May 30.
According to the report, NewJeans (Minji, Hani, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) and their double single "How Sweet" along with the title track of the same name, ranked 7th on the 'Global (excluding U.S.)' chart. Billboard noted that "'How Sweet' recorded 42.8 million streams and over 5,000 downloads in a week," and highlighted that this is NewJeans' fifth song to make it to the 'Global (excluding U.S.)' Top 10.
The track "Bubble Gum" secured the 18th position on the same chart. This song achieved 25 million streams and over 4,000 downloads. "Bubble Gum" was first released as a music video on April 27, and despite not being officially released as a single at that time, it entered the 'Global (excluding U.S.)' chart at 166th place on May 11. This demonstrated NewJeans' substantial global influence, as they managed to chart on Billboard with just a pre-release music video.
Unlike the 'Hot 100' chart, which includes U.S. radio airplay, Billboard's global chart ranks the most popular songs based on streaming and sales data from over 200 regions worldwide. This chart reflects trends in the global music market and serves as a key indicator of worldwide popularity.
NewJeans continues to maintain strong popularity on major domestic music charts as well. Both "How Sweet" and "Bubble Gum" are consistently loved, ranking 2nd and 3rd on platforms like Melon, Bugs, and Flo.
Meanwhile, NewJeans will host an offline pop-up store to commemorate the release of "How Sweet." The "How Sweet POP-UP," in collaboration with their official merchandise partner IPX (formerly Line Friends), will take place from June 5 to 17 at Line Friends Square in Sinsa.
