The sudden passing of renowned actress Kim Soo-mi has left the entertainment world in deep mourning.
Found unresponsive at her home on the morning of September 25, Kim was transported to the hospital but tragically passed away at the age of 75. According to her son, Jung Myung-ho, the cause of death was related to severe hyperglycemia, compounded by the stress from a recent theater production. Since last year, she had been preparing for a lawsuit after not receiving payment for her acting role.
Making her debut as MBC's third batch talent in 1971, Kim Soo-mi captivated audiences with her unique beauty and acting talent across various genres, including drama, film, and theater. Most notably, she played the role of Yiyong Omma in the hit drama "Jeonwon Ilgi," which aired from 1980, creating a lasting impression despite her youth. In recent years, she actively engaged with fans, appearing in the film "Family's Glory: Returns" and the play "My Mother" until her passing.
The emotional impact was especially profound among her close colleagues and fellow actors, many of whom she considered like sons. Actor Shin Hyun-joon, who worked alongside her, expressed his overwhelming grief, recalling their last conversation just before her birthday.
Lastly, Kim Soo-mi's funeral is scheduled for September 27 at 11 a.m., marking a significant loss for both her family and the broader community of K-pop and Korean culture enthusiasts.
