In a surprising turn of events, K-pop singer Seven has publicly challenged claims made by fellow artists G-Dragon and the group Big Bang. Seven refuted G-Dragon’s assertion that he lost a dance battle to Rain and dismissed Big Bang's claim of being the first to use the "bang bong" cheering light stick. He took to Instagram, sharing a video and stating, “Our Jiyong (G-Dragon's real name) seems to be a bit misinformed.”
In the video, G-Dragon reminisced about a past dance-off against Jay Park and Jun.K, declaring, "I believe Seven lost when it came to Rain and Seven." Seven, responding directly, emphasized that the original cheering light stick is actually his invention, specifically a "7 bong." This rebuttal comes in light of Big Bang asserting their innovative status regarding cheering tools in the K-pop industry.
Seven previously discussed the motivation behind creating the 7 bong during an appearance on MBC FM4U's ‘Midday Hope Song with Kim Shin-young,’ explaining that early fan support involved colorful balloons. He noted that when he debuted, there was a lack of colored balloons available for fans, prompting him to introduce a new design for fan engagements. This claim further solidifies his position in the narrative of K-pop memorabilia invention.
Meanwhile, Seven, who debuted in 2003, has captivated fans with hits like "Come Back" and "Passion" and married actress Lee Da-hae last year. G-Dragon recently made a comeback with his new single "POWER" after a seven-year hiatus and is set to perform at the upcoming 2024 MAMA Awards on November 23.
